Re: [cobol-1] Tonight's COBOL Meetup

Joseph,

What an appropriate name for this time of the year.
That and the name also implies great wisdom.

I am stuck in a bad situation so I thought I would at least start by communicating with
you via e-mail.  I am an unemployed COBOL legacy Programmer, who has only 1 car that is trapped in an impound lot right now.

I do not think I can make the meeting tonight, unless you would be willing to either drive to my house and get me before the meeting, or change the meeting site.

Anyway, please do not hold it against me that I am not there. I will call you on Tuesday morning at 9:30 am for an update on what went on.

Since you seem to be the President of this group, I would like to submit a request to become Vice-President.  My qualifications include 30+ years of COBOL experience, and a mouth that just does not stop.

Please do not hesitate to call me at home tonight after 10 at [masked].
My home address is 5939 Traymore Avenue, Brooklyn, Ohio, 44144.

The STARBUCKS coffee shop in RIDGE PARK SQUARE would be a good place to meet me.

Thanks for now, and I will talk to you later.

I do not even know if the RTA(Regional Torture Association) goes out to the Caribou House

Howdy Yall!

Tonight we have another COBOL meetup. The group is new, with me having been the only member since its inception. In fact we are the very first COBOL on Meetup.com. They set it up at a special request. So far two of us have RSVPed. If you can make it, an RSVP just helps me keep a lookout for you.

The meetup will be at the Caribou on the corner of Center Ridge and 210 in Rocky River. I will be the funny looking guy with the Santa Hat on. I will also notify the Caribou staff, so if you cant find me, just ask them. I will be there until about 9pm then I am heading back to my office (its across the street).

If you need to get in touch with me to verify anything you can contact me at my office line [masked]. If I don't answer, leave a message and I will return your call promptly.

This meetup will be a meet and greet, due to our just getting it together. Don't despair about the small numbers though. The web design meetup group I organize (Now officially called Cleveland Web Standards Association or CWSA for short) started out back in April with only 2 of us showing up. Cleveland is a big town and there is still a lot of COBOL in use here, so hopefully after a few meetings we can grow this also.

As it says on my profile, it has been a long time since I used COBOL. But I plan on making it the de facto standard at our office. So I am looking to get back into it with gusto. I look forward to seeing whoever shows up and think we'll have a great time talking.

Many kind regards,
Joseph James Frantz
